Disc golf trajectory modelling combining computational fluid dynamics and rigid body dynamics

Abstract In the sport of disc golf, athletes utilize discs with various shapes to achieve their desired throws. Computational methods have potential give further insight into how shape and throw parameters influence trajectory. A methodology is presented that combines computational fluid dynamics obtain aerodynamic coefficients for a given shape, rigid body simulate golf flight. The simulations were performed in OpenFOAM, compared against wind tunnel experiments from literature. trajectory model was implemented an open-source software, simulated trajectories measured actual applied three different discs, comparing flight trajectories. How impacts lift, drag moment corresponding discussed. has consistently characterize lead greater understanding flight, thereby contribute both training, development regulation.
